Hide your tracks

If someone might check the phone or computer you are using, these steps help keep your visit to this site private. No method is completely safe. Whenever you can, use a device the person cannot access: a friend’s phone, a public library computer or a phone at work.

The “Erase my tracks” button

The button at the top of every page, and the Escape key on a computer, closes this site right away, opens a neutral weather page and asks your browser to forget the pages you visited here. It cannot delete this site from your full browsing history. To do that, follow the steps below.

Use private browsing

A private window does not keep history, cookies or searches once you close it. Chrome: New Incognito window. Safari: New Private Window. Firefox: New Private Window. Edge: New InPrivate window. On a phone, the same option is in the tabs menu of your browser.

Clear your browsing history

Choose your browser. Clearing only the last hour or the current day is enough and is less noticeable than deleting everything.

Open the menu (three dots) at the top right, then choose Delete browsing data. Pick a time range (for example, the last hour), check Browsing history, Cookies and Cached images and files, then click Delete data.

In the menu bar, open History, then Clear History. Choose a time range (the last hour, today) and confirm.

Open the menu, choose History, then Clear recent history. Pick the time range and the items to delete, then click Clear now.

Open the menu (three dots), choose History, then the trash icon or Delete browsing data. Pick the time range and the items, then Clear now.

Open Settings, go to Apps then Safari, and tap Clear History and Website Data. You can also open Safari, tap the book icon, then Clear at the bottom of the history list.

Open the menu (three dots), choose History, then Delete browsing data. Pick the time range and the items, then tap Delete data.

A few more precautions

  • Do not bookmark this site or add it to your home screen. Remember the address instead: amauti.ca.
  • A completely empty history can look suspicious. After clearing it, visit a few everyday sites.
  • Phones keep a record of calls. Delete the call to Amauti from your recent calls, or call from a phone the person cannot see.
  • If you reach out by email or text message, delete the messages you sent and the replies.
  • If you think spyware may be installed on your device, use another device.
  • If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
