Amauti is an Inuit-led emergency shelter in Montreal offering a safe and supportive place for Inuit women and children seeking safety from domestic violence.
All Inuit women and their children who are beneficiaries of the JBNQA are prioritized for Amauti services if they are fleeing domestic or family violence, threats, control, or harassment. Other Inuit women and Indigenous people may also be accommodated, depending on availability.
We accept women of all ages. Children up to 18 may accompany their caregiver. Boys over the age of 14 will be assessed at intake for admission.
If you have your documents or ID with you, please bring them. If not, we will manage without them.
The length of a stay depends on each person’s situation and needs. The standard maximum stay is three months, but no resident should be pressured to leave without a safe plan in place.
Beyond safe housing, we provide a broad range of health and social services, including individual counselling, housing and service navigation, referrals to health, legal and community resources, support for mothers and children, culturally grounded programming, and practical assistance.
Amauti is a community service available at no cost to Inuit women and their children.
When you arrive, our team will welcome you at your own pace. We will offer immediate safety support, including food, clothing, and a calm space, while we complete the intake and screening process. Then, we will assign you a room and begin safety planning, along with cultural supports.

Amauti provides clothing to women and children when they arrive. If you have clean, gently used clothing in good condition for all seasons, we would be happy to receive your donation.
